Skimming, plasterboarding, ceiling repairs and full re-plastering across Woolwich, Plumstead and Charlton — flats and houses, fixed written prices, walls left flat and ready to paint.
Woolwich is two kinds of building in one postcode, and a plasterer has to work differently in each. A Royal Arsenal flat is plasterboard, tight access and a building manager; a Plumstead terrace is lime plaster on lath and a hundred and twenty years of movement.
Board or old plaster taken flat with two coats of finish. On a Royal Arsenal flat it is usually a clean one-day job per room.
New stud walls and ceilings boarded, taped and skimmed so the joints never show when the light rakes across them.
Up in Plumstead and Shooters Hill the old lath lets go in patches. Taken down and reboarded where it has, left alone where it has not.
The commonest Woolwich flat job — a leak from above. Damaged board cut out, replaced, taped and skimmed to match the rest of the ceiling.
Blown plaster off back to the brick, bonded and finished. The right answer where a skim would only cover the problem for a season.
Contaminated plaster removed and replaced properly — after the cause is dealt with, not instead of it.
Plaster fails for the same three reasons every time: a wall never tested for a sound key, finish trowelled onto a surface that was never stabilised, and a skim put over a problem instead of fixing it. Get those right and a skimmed wall stays flat for decades. Get them wrong and it cracks across the middle inside two years.
Send a photo of the wall on WhatsApp — a wide shot and a close-up of any cracking tells us nearly everything we need.
We come out, check the substrate and the damp, then give you a fixed written price — materials, protection and making good all in.
Prepared, bonded, skimmed and left flat and ready to paint, the room swept and cleared — and the work guaranteed in writing.
Public-liability insured, with references from regular customers you can check first.
Floors, doorways and the route in and out covered from the start. The dust stays in the room it belongs in.
Every wall tapped through, loose plaster cut back, beads set true. The bit nobody sees is the bit that lasts.
One price for the whole job, agreed before we start. Materials, protection and making good included.

The split in Woolwich housing is sharper than in most of south east London, and it changes the job completely. The Royal Arsenal and the newer riverside blocks are plasterboard throughout: the plastering work there is taping and jointing, skimming board to a paint-ready finish, making good after a kitchen or bathroom is changed, and repairing the water damage that comes with flats stacked above one another. It is clean work, but it comes with a building's rules attached — working hours, lift bookings, waste that has to leave the site rather than go in a communal bin — and a plasterer who ignores those makes the resident unpopular. Up the hill toward Plumstead and Shooters Hill it is a different century. Victorian and interwar terraces with lime plaster on timber lath, and the usual pattern of a key that has crumbled somewhere and held firm elsewhere, so half a ceiling is sound and half is not. Those houses also carry more damp than the flats do — a lot of them have solid single-skin rear walls, raised ground levels and back additions that were never as dry as the front of the house. Replastering a wall that is still getting wet is the most common wasted spend we are called to look at, and the honest answer is often to fix the outside first and let the wall dry before anybody skims anything. Whichever building you are in, the work itself is the same standard: surfaces stabilised, angles beaded, two coats of finish worked flat, the room sheeted and the waste taken away. What changes is what is behind the wall, and that is settled before a price is given rather than discovered halfway through.

Usually yes: working hours, lift bookings and waste removal are all managed by the building. We work to them as a matter of course, and it is worth telling us at quoting so the timescale we give you is real rather than optimistic.
Often not. A crack in a plasterboard ceiling is usually a joint that has moved and can be raked out, taped and skimmed. An old lath ceiling in a Plumstead terrace is a different question, and we tap it through before answering.
We can, and it will come back. Plaster is not a damp treatment — salts in a wet wall pull moisture out of the air indefinitely, so the patch reappears through fresh paint. Deal with why it is wet, let it dry, then replaster. We would rather tell you that than take the money twice.
Three to seven days for fresh plaster, and it tells you when it is ready by going a uniform pale pink. A watered-down mist coat first — straight emulsion onto new plaster peels.
Constantly, and we work accordingly — sheeted routes, contained dust, and waste bagged and taken out rather than left in a communal area. It is the difference between a job your neighbours tolerate and one they complain about.
Usually. A patch repair in the middle of a wall is harder to hide than people expect, so on a visible wall we will often suggest skimming the whole thing — it is not much more work and it does not leave a shadow you notice for years.
